A Taste of Botanical Printing

Are you curious about botanical printing, the process where natural dyes and plants and blooms make color on natural fabrics like cotton? In this introductory class, we’ll talk about botanical printing and make three cotton bandannas using natural dyes and plants. I will mordant the bandannas beforehand but describe the process I used to prepare the natural fabrics. You’ll make three abstract bandannas prints choosing your own color approach from my “buffet” of  dyestuffs and plants after I demonstrate the process. While your projects are steaming to fix the colors, I will talk about more advanced techniques for botanical printing that deliver intricate detail and different color approaches and show some examples of my work. At the end of class, you’ll leave with three bandannas perfect for holiday gifting or wearing!
