Band Weaving on a Portable Rigid Heddle June 7, 2:00-4:00
$40.00
This immersive workshop is designed specifically for fiber artists looking to deepen their practice through the elegant and portable tradition of tape weaving. Using small rigid heddles and a backstrap-inspired setup, we’ll explore the intersection of structure, history, and design.
What You’ll Experience
In this hands-on class, each participant will create a woven tape on a pre-warped loom using natural fibers and historic patterns. With colorways and drafts pre-selected, you’ll be able to dive straight into the weaving process.
Students who finish early or work efficiently may begin a second tape, offering space for individual exploration or variation.
We’ll finish by learning techniques to secure and finish tapes, equipping you with skills to create usable, durable, and beautiful textile elements for your studio practice or wearable art. You will keep the rigid heddle and shuttle to take home to continue your weaving.
Who This Class Is For
This workshop is ideal for spinners, knitters, weavers, and textile enthusiasts who want to explore a historically rich form of weaving. No previous tape weaving experience is required, but comfort with fiber tools and techniques will enhance your experience.
