Demystifying Knitting Charts, June 21, 9-12
$45.00
Instructor: Jenn Lampen
Workshop Description (3 hr) – Have you ever looked at a chart in a pattern and thought it was a crazy array of dots and lines that would never mean anything and switched immediately to the written instructions? Have you realized that a pattern wasn’t for you because it only had instructions in charted form? Well, this is the class for you! Charts can be a wonderful tool to visualize your knitted fabric and
simplify long instructions, and a few simple tools can give you the confidence to follow charts for many types of knitting.
You will learn to read charts for knitting flat and in the round, recognize common chart symbols, understand cable symbols without needing a key, and more so that you can approach new types of charts with ease.
Student Requirements (materials, skills, etc.) – DK or worsted weight yarn (stash leftovers are fine, solids or semisolids recommended), 16-in US8/5.0mm circular needles or size appropriate for your yarn, cable needle, post-it notes/highlighter tape/other marker for tracking chart rows.
Students should be confident with basic knitting techniques like knitting, purling, increases, decreases, and knitting in the round, and should be familiar with cables.
