Description

If you are able, it would be helpful if you could knit a gauge swatch before the class starts. You just need the yarn you selected and the size needles you intend to use. Use any needle that’s the size you intend to use for the sock.
Please also measure your foot at the widest part (if the socks are for you) or obtain that measurement. Discount .5-1″ for possible bunions. Discount another 10% from the remaining measurement. Note this as your circumference.

Knit a gauge swatch at least 4×4 inches in the round.

a.      In the round gauge is knit as follows: cast on as many stitches as required on the label to reach 4” on DPNs. To knit in the “round”, knit a row, then slide your work back in position to knit again (Note: there is NO purling; the concept is similar to knitting and iCord). Leave enough slack in the yarn to lay the knitted piece flat. Knit enough rows until you reach at least 2”, better 4” in height. This method mimics knitting in the round but is faster. Measure your gauge and determine how many stitches/inch there are for width and height (height will be important for calculating foot/toe section, however, that can be measured later on the actual sock).

b.      Measure across the 4” and divide by 4 to arrive at stitches/inch

c.      Now multiply stitches/inch result by number of inches from the circumference of the foot. This is the number of stitches to cast on for a comfortable fit.
